Cavalcade 08-1

The most famous Carnival in the Region takes place in Sarreguemines every year, one week before Mardi Gras.

It always follows the same ritual with the princely couple, the Kappensitzung, (preliminary carnival sessions), the Cavalcade, the masked balls (Balla-Balla), and ends on Ash Wednesday with the sentencing of the Prince.

The festivities last for more than ten days in the restaurants and the streets.

Kappensitzung

The character who appear on the front of the stage during the various events are many and each has a particular part. We can see the Princely Couple, the Fotzers, "the Sweet Talkers", the Hosts, the Clowns and the Eleven's board. The animators have a very specific part. They have, in fact, the same functions that Monsieur Loyal in the circus. They measure the evening and harmonize the numbers
Stage of the City hall at 8:11 pm.

The International Cavalcade

The Cavalcade is one of the only popular events to drain so many people in the streets of Sarreguemines. Colourful, diversified, and large-scale international, the Cavalcade acquired for a long time its letters patent of nobility and knows every year a formidable, popular success. Coming from the close Sarre, from Alsace, from Eastern Moselle, they are many to group on the route. The Cavalcade is always eagerly awaited.
Free. In the centre of the town from 03.00 pm.

The masked balls

The Balla-Balla or masked balls bring every year a touch of creativity and originality in the fancy costume and dress to satisfy young and old. For those who like partying, it is indispensable to go to the masked balls of Sarreguemines, which are considered in the entire region and attract every year thousands of people of the entire region and even the more distant parts of the country.
City hall from 8:11 pm. Entrance : 15 €.

The sentencing of the Prince

The sentence is opened to the public. It's composite of the Eleven's board, the Hosts, the Carnival People and naturally the Princess. The sentence is without appeal, and the evidence won't change anything. The Prince is driven on the European Bridge. His last gesture is to give a Mimosa twig to the Princess. In front of the Princess in tears, the "Strohman, man of straw" is hoisted in the gallows. He is burned and thrown in the Sarre. Free. In the centre of the town.
